The University of Scranton President’s Business Council (PBC) Virtual 20th Annual Award Dinner honoring John E. (Jack) Brennan ’68, P’06 in memoriam and also recognizing the first 20 years of the PBC was broadcast Nov. 18.
As the world slowly began to reopen during the spring of 2021, Scranton graduates far and wide continued to rely on the alumni network to serve their communities, support current students and bond over their shared love of the University.

University Releases ‘Bridges To El Salvador: A University of Scranton Documentary’

The University recently released "Bridges To El Salvador: A University of Scranton Documentary," a video that chronicles Scranton's 20-year relationship with the people of Las Delicias, a village in El Salvador.
The University of Scranton will celebrate its seventh annual Day of Giving on May 6, 2021. This year, the goal is to reach 2,427 donors by midnight on 5.06 in honor of the University’s 24th and 27th president, the Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.
University Book Club Provides Compelling Discussion

When the Office of Alumni Engagement challenged social media followers to submit a “Scrantastic” pumpkin for this year’s Pumpkin Carving Contest, Emily Johnson DeSarno ’14, G’14 did not disappoint.
In an effort to bring the spirit of Scranton into as many homes and hearts as the internet would allow, the University produced an online Christmas special for its alumni, students, parents and friends to enjoy.

From June 9-11, more than 1,100 alumni and friends descended upon The University of Scranton for Alumni Weekend 2017, the annual chance for Royals to return home and recapture the glory of their Scranton days.
May 6, 2017, marked The University of Scranton’s third annual Day of Giving, and Royals around the world responded to the weekend-long celebration of the event by raising more than $260,000 from 2,279 gifts, SHATTERING ALL PREVIOUS 5.06 RECORDS.

As the new Alumni Board president, retired army Col. Richard H. Breen Jr. ’77 wants to ensure that each of those members sees the value of a continued connection with the Scranton community.
The University welcomed more than 1,200 alumni and friends to campus June 3-5 for Alumni Weekend. Alumni with class years ending in a ‘6’ or ‘1’ celebrated their milestone reunions. All members of the University community were invited to partake in the festivities.
There are many ways for Scranton alumni to be involved with the University and connect with fellow graduates. Attending or planning events on and off campus, encouraging prospective students to apply to the University, serving as a career mentor, hosting internships and providing philanthropic support are just a few.
A lot of things come and go in 50 years, but at Scranton, Bob Zelno’s presence has been a constant. This June, the longtime staff member will be joined by his classmates for their 50th reunion celebration, exactly one half century after their graduation day.

The Alumni Society Advisory Board (ASAB), made up of 24 dedicated men and women, sets direction, reviews progress and suggests a future course for the Alumni Society as a whole.
The University of Scranton Early Learning Center, which opened in September at 528 Quincy Avenue in Scranton’s Hill Section, is the second University initiative that has received approval for Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) from the Department of Community and Economic Development.

On April 6, 2014, Joseph Vaszily ’95 stood on the court of Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, taking it all in: Twenty-two thousand screaming fans. All the cameras. The bright lights. An NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Final Four game was just moments away, and Vaszily was filled with excitement and pride.

More than 150 students have been honored with a Presidential Scholarship over the past 14 years, supported in great part by the generosity of members and benefactors of the University’s President’s Business Council (PBC).
Joanne Kelly and Bill Kelly Sr. lost their son, Bill Jr. ’93, during the September 11 attacks. That dark day caused unspeakable pain for their tight-knit family. But in the days and years that followed, many acts of kindness in response to the tragedy have proved to the Kellys that there is still a lot of goodness in the world.

A decade ago, the world was shaken by the tragic events of Sept. 11, and a surge of shock and sadness flooded the hearts of those near and far, including our University community. Michael Costello ’96, Timothy Finnerty ’90, Charles Heeran ’00, Timothy Hughes ’80 and William Kelly ’93, as well as 32 others who were related to students and graduates, were taken from us that day.
