The University announced the start of the public phase of “A Fire That Kindles Other Fires: The Campaign To Advance Mission, Access, & Excellence,” its new $135 million capital campaign, with a black-tie gala attended by more than 350 guests in the Byron Recreation Complex Sept. 16.
The event featured addresses from Cayla Kumar ’24, a first-generation molecular biology major, Rev. Joseph G. Marina, S.J., University president, John D. Dionne ’86, H’10, P’22, a former chair of the University’s Board of Trustees and the campaign’s co-chair, and Jacquelyn Dionne, R.N. ’89, P’22, co-vice chair of the University’s Board of Trustees and the co-chair of the campaign.
To date, the campaign has raised more than $112 million, including 13 gifts of $1 million or more and the largest single donation in the University’s history, a $10 million gift from University benefactors Patricia and Edward R. Leahy ’68, H ’01, who were honored with The University of Scranton President’s Medal at the event.
