When Anthony Simone ’90 and his wife Kelley (Marrinan) Simone ’90, G’91 were asked by the University to co-chair the Parents’ Executive Council (PEC), they were surprised and honored. But after thinking back to their days as students, and now watching their son, Anthony, a junior, enjoy his time at Scranton, they knew it was a great way to give back.
“It is the notion of going over and above to achieve that which touches not one life, but many lives. We can think of no better way to do this than through involvement in the Parents’ Executive Council,” said Anthony.
The Simones were two of the founding members of the PEC, which is open to parents of current and past students. The purpose of the council is to involve parents in the life and mission of the University at its highest level. Members achieve this level of connectivity through their commitment in three key areas: collaboration on campus and student-life initiatives, engagement in parent programs regionally, and philanthropy to support the University’s greatest needs and priorities. The PEC is an excellent platform for parents to strengthen their connectivity with the University and the greater parent network.
“As graduates, we hope this to be another avenue by which we can give back to the University, enhance our students’ experience, and be able to add value to the University’s mission of preparing students who, in the words of St. Ignatius of Loyola, will ‘set the world on fire,’” said Anthony. "We think the Parents’ Executive Council will enable all of us to add to this mission through both a collaborative and individual effort.”
