Kathryn Ott Lovell ’96 gained much more at The University of Scranton than a double major and her first job as an admissions counselor. On her first day at the University, Lovell was introduced to someone on the Commons.
“We met on the first day of school and started dating soon after,” she said. Three years after graduating, that man, Andrew Lovell ’96, got down on one knee and proposed to her in front of the bronze statue of Jacob and the Angel. It was one of a series of events that tied them to the University.
They were married by Rev. Brendan Lally, S.J. '70, former campus minister and rector of the University.
Andrew, who graduated with a degree in marketing, and Kathryn have two daughters: the elder, Lucy, 18, is attending college in New York City (“much to my chagrin,” said Kathryn Ott Lovell), while their younger daughter, Johanna, 12, is a few years away from making a decision. “I would love Jo to go to Scranton. I would, I would just love it, but I don't know...I guess there's still hope,” said Kathryn Ott Lovell.
Her younger brother, Fred Ott, also graduated from Scranton in 1998.

· Kathryn Ott Lovell led an effort that "rescued" a Philadelphia holiday tradition, the Christmas Light Show at Wanamaker's department store. About $800,000 was raised and more than 150,000 people attended the shows last December.
· She appeared in the three-part documentary, "Urban Trinity: The Story of Catholic Philadelphia."
