Tim Walsh’s road to serving as Chair and CEO of KPMG U.S. has been one of constant learning and connection.
“At KPMG, you’re on a team from day one, and within a few months you’re leading teams and serving clients — so there’s all these human interactions happening,” he said. “Accounting and the technical side of the business are very important, of course, but the social dynamic and the ability to communicate effectively and lead -- and all those other skills I honed at the University -- have been invaluable to me.”
From 2001 to 2006, Walsh was part of KPMG’s U.S. Capital Markets Group in London, where he worked with clients from across Europe, Asia and Latin America. After becoming a partner there, he went on to a succession of high-profile roles, including New York Metro Audit partner-in-charge, industry leader for the Consumer & Retail business in the New York metro area, and lead partner-in-charge of the Venture Capital practice. Prior to becoming chair and CEO, he served as national managing partner of Audit operations.
“KPMG has always been a wonderful place to work,” Walsh said. “It has a great, collaborative culture. I’ve made many great friends here. And every single year from the year I started, I’ve had multiple new opportunities to lead and take on more responsibility, and work with clients from many different industries. That’s what’s kept me here.”
