Landmark Conference Announces Updates to Return to Play Protocol
With the fall semester finished, leadership at The University of Scranton and the other seven institutions in the Landmark Conference continue to work tirelessly to develop a plan for a safe return to play for their collegiate sports programs during the spring semester.
On Dec. 3, the conference office released their latest update to their return to play protocol. The update included the following:
- The Landmark Conference Presidents' Council unanimously agreed to reconvene during the first week in January to allow for more fact-gathering and the latest regional and local recommendations and guidelines to be considered when making a final decision regarding the resumption of athletics.
- If conditions allow, the conference will conduct a men's and women's basketball schedule and postseason that will begin no earlier than Friday, Feb. 5.
- The conference will not conduct an Indoor Track and Field Championship due to in-person gathering restrictions and the number of staff needed to successfully conduct the event. The conference is exploring alternate models and competitive opportunities for swimming & diving. Participation opportunities for swimming and diving would not occur before Feb. 5.
Schedules and Championship information for winter sports will be shared in early January following the next meeting of the Landmark Presidents Council. The conference will also provide an update on competitive opportunities for fall sports during the 2021 spring semester along with any modifications to the spring sports schedules and Championship formats at that time.
Fans of Scranton athletics are reminded to continue to follow the Royals online for any updates as they become available throughout January and into the spring semester.
Breaking news will be posted immediately on the Department of Athletics’ website -- athletics.scranton.edu -- and will be shared on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram @RoyalAthletics, as well.
