5.06.20: Royals Rise Up

Despite a worldwide pandemic, more than 3,000 donors shattered our previous participation record as they rose up to raise more than $300,000 for The University of Scranton on 5.06.20, the University’s sixth annual Day of Giving.

Nearly 400 of those donors chose to support The Father Sweeney Fund for Emergency Financial Aid, giving Scranton students experiencing unexpected financial hardships the chance to continue their studies without interruption. The impact of the majority of those gifts was doubled by a $40,000 match gift to the fund from the Board of Trustees, and, when that goal was surpassed, an additional $25,000 match gift from Board Chair Jim Slattery ’86 and his wife, Betsy.

Nearly 600 donors participated in the Virtual 5.06K, a chance for Royals and friends of the University to exercise in any way in support of the Scranton cause of their choice.

Sixty alumni also hosted Virtual 506 Happy Hours via Zoom to raise awareness of the event amongst their fellow alumni, their friends, and their families, spreading the Scranton spirit far and wide across the digital realm.
