A Message from our President
Dear Alumni & Friends,
This spring, as the scaffolding on Edward R. Leahy Jr. Hall began to come down, members of our community were collaborating to create The University of Scranton 2015-2020 Strategic Plan — An Engaged, Integrated, Global Student Experience. The plan, unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees in May, is grounded in principles of affordability, assessment, innovation, excellence and community. While it builds on traditionally strong areas for Scranton, its themes and goals challenge the University to adapt and evolve.
I am deeply proud of the exceptional work of the members of the University community who helped to lay out the new Strategic Plan, which — like Leahy Hall — will undoubtedly have a transformative effect on our students’ learning experience. In this issue of The Scranton Journal, we rediscover just how transformative a Scranton education can be, as we learn about alumni who have taken on everything from health care innovation to counterterrorism.
Many of the things that make this University distinctive and improve the lives of our students are thanks to the generous support of our alumni, parents and friends, and the exceptional work of our faculty. I am constantly reminded of how extraordinary this community really is, and how unique the pride. For example, the outpouring of alumni support on May 6 — a day of giving — was spectacular. I often hear touching stories about just how valuable their Jesuit education — their Scranton education — has been in their lives, and this day of giving was no exception.
I hope that you will share in my excitement as we put the new Strategic Plan into action and embrace the changes we continue to make to keep us innovative as we move through the 21st century. As always, I remain confident about the continued success of The University of Scranton.
God bless you.
Sincerely,
Kevin P. Quinn, S.J.
