A new report by the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program places Scranton among the top schools in the nation for economic value of education. According to the report, which seeks to measure the contributions made by two- and four-year colleges to its graduates’ economic outcomes, Scranton graduates have a “midcareer” earnings “value added” increase of 31 percent. This places the University among the top 50 colleges in the nation and ties it for second place in Pennsylvania for its “value added” earnings score.
The analysis accounts for benefits that accrue from both measurable aspects of quality, such as graduation rates, and hardto-measure “x-factors,” such as exceptional leadership, teaching or alumni networks. Brookings said “x-factors” contribute strongly to the high value-added scores of four-year colleges and universities.
